The Chatterbox Café
Aaron
Down in Highland village, near the Mississippi River, lives a teeny little gnome named Urgle. But instead of a gnome, it's a restaurant! And instead of Urgle, it's the Chatterbox Café! Bet I fooled you.
Gnomes and trickery aside, this place is a solid choice for a family outing, fancy dinner for two or a place for young folks to enjoy themselves. The Chatterbox replaced a previous restaurant, Perkins, and it is the general opinion that this is a change for the better.
Attracting passersby with it's glittery gold sign, the Chatterbox focuses on two things: great food, and great atmosphere. The interior is sort of dark, with loud music filling the room and unusual lighting illuminating the place (green bulbs, creative lampshades, and novelty lights are all over). You can sit in their booths that line both rooms or you can take the more popular choice: couches! In the middle of the café's two rooms, couches, TVs and coffee tables populate the otherwise barren carpet.
Couches and video games lend themselves well to this Costumed waiters and waitresses do the usual ordering routinequirky but wonderful Highland restaurant * (beverages first, then food). You could go with something boring, like Sprite, a beer, or a Coke, or you could try their signature drink: handmade strawberry lemonade. With a perfect balance of sweet and sour, this delicious drink still has strawberry seeds at the bottom and chilly ice at the top. If you're going to the Chatterbox Café, someone at the table has to order this.
As for your actual entree, this place specializes in the standard American fare: burgers 'n fries. This is a recommended order, although most anything on the menu is great. But the best (and most unique) part of the restaurant is when you're waiting for your food. A few arcade game machines are scattered around, but they're set to 'free' mode! Younger kids will love roaming around and playing these.
Also, for three dollars, you can rent a Nintendo NES or Atari game console and play retro games like the original Mario, or other classics. The TVs are right at your table, so you don't have to roam around and find an open one. Parents are sure to have a good time here, but young kids and teenagers will have a lot of fun with the entertainment (and hip atmosphere).
Prices are a little expensive, but still agreeable, and the food is really quite delicious. If you're in the mood for eating out, but still don't know where to go, I'd recommend the Chatterbox Café!
