Whenever I visit my hometown of Rochester, Minnesota, I am eager to visit one of my favorite restaurants: Nupa. Nupa embodies all of the features I look for in an eatery. It is delicious, fast, stylish, inexpensive, offers a variety of choices, and has a surprisingly attractive independent owner.
Nupa is self-defined as Mediterranean cuisine — which really means it offers everything from greek salads to pita wraps, from gyros to french fries, from florettas to soups and from tiramisu to baclava. And plenty of other good stuff too. Everything is really delicious and most entrees go for less than eight bucks.
My regular order is the Chicken Pita Lunch Special, which includes chicken, lettuce, tomato (which I ask them to hold), onion and greek dressing wrapped in a warm pita, with a side of rice and greek salad. My mouth is literally watering now just thinking about it.
The restaurant is small and sort of strange-looking from the outside since it occupies a former eyeglasses store, but it is clean and decorated with an attractive and not too cheesy greek theme.
So, if you happen to find yourself in Rochester, Minnesota, remember to visit a little place called Nupa. You won't be disappointed.
