The Minnesota Zoo

I went to the Minnesota Zoo for the first time in a couple years and was surprised at how much they’d added, and the supreme quality of what was added. The new “Russia’s Grizzly Coast” exhibit was outstanding. It had excellent scenery including bubbling mud pits, grasses native to Russia, fallen trees and geysers. All the animals, including boars, otters, leopards and grizzly bears had clean and roomy cages. The zoo also has a farm that shows farm animals such as cows, goats, pigs, horses and chickens. Another new exhibit is the Minnesota Trail, a collection of animals native to Minnesota, such as raccoons, beavers, wolves, coyotes and wolverines — all in spacious and realistic cages. The zoo also has a new trail with camels, bison, Mongolian horses and a cool tiger viewing station where visitors can use provided binoculars to look for tigers hidden in about one acre of forest.
The two classic trails, Discovery Bay (an area displaying a large array of aquatic animals) and the Tropics Trail (a half-mile long trail with tropic animals like the sun bear, lemur, komodo dragon and tropical fish) are still as clean and as exciting as ever.
The food at the zoo is very expensive, although tasty, so if you want to save money, pack a lunch. The zoo food consists of a food court and multiple small vendors scattered throughout the zoo.
Kids will love going on the monorail, a train going over all outdoor exhibits in the zoo. A recorded voice will point out sights as you enjoy the view out the large windows on a leisurely 30 minute trip. Admission to the train is $4 per person.
SUMMARY: The Minnesota Zoo is enjoyable and affordable for all ages. It is a fun family
outing for everyone.
