Despicable Me is an animated comedy that was released in July. Its unique, lovable characters and combination of hilarity and thoughtfulness made this movie a success and one of my favorites of the summer.
Despicable Me tells the story of a criminal mastermind named Gru, voiced by Steve Carell, who adopts three orphan girls as an obscure part of his strange plan to become the most famous criminal in the world. The four make an unlikely and hilarious family, and the girls and Gru develop an unexpected attachment to each other. But as Gru prepares to perform the biggest heist in history, he has to decide where his priorities lie: with his fame, or with the girls.
Although it has a relatively predictable plot and fails to reach the high comedic and visual standards set by animation superstar Pixar, Universal's Despicable Me is an enjoyable film that will make the whole family laugh and might even coax a few tears out of the more emotional viewers. The film is so chalk-full of silly lines that it is guaranteed to have you quoting characters and mimicking accents for weeks to come.
