The Hoover Dam Museum Las Vegas, NV
General Admission: $2
Buying a ticket gives you a 30-minute guided tour of deep inside the dam, and access to the museum. If you're in Vegas, you must see the dam. 'Tis very cool.
Planes of Fame Museum Valle, AZ
General Admission: $5.95
The museum is interesting, more about planes than presentation, meaning that most of the aircraft are just parked in the hangar in no particular order.
Still, the hangar is pretty cool, and one could spend about 1 to 2 hours at the museum.
Meteor Crater 35 Miles from Flagstaff, AZ
Adult Admission: $15
Youth Admission: $8
The crater was formed by a meteorite thousands of years ago, and was brought to attention in the mid-1800s. From then on, it has been a tourist attraction, a mining site, and an Apollo astronaut training center.
Once inside, you can walk to a nice overlook, tour the small but well-done museum and take an hour-long tour led by a staff member along the rim of the crater, where you'll learn about it's origins and history.
The crater is really cool and I'd recommend it for most anyone.
The Jerome County Historical Museum Jerome, AZ
General Admission: $2
An old saloon-turned museum on a street corner. You walk through old west-style swinging doors to a small maze of photos, display cases and interactive exhibits, including a digital record of the Jerome high school yearbook, dating back to 1924. The museum gives you a general history of Jerome about it's wild west gunfights, natural beauty, mining history and infamous reputation for, ahem, wenches, alcohol and prostitution.
Loose-moraled activities aside, the museum is very good (especially for $2), and will take about half an hour to tour.
The Museum of Northern Arizona Flagstaff, AZ
General Admission: $5-$10
Although interesting to some, I found the establishment a tad boring, despite my usual enthusiasm for museums. It's mainly filled with pottery and native art, all of it relating to the history and culture of people in Northern Arizona. Adults, such as my parents, found the museum fairly interesting, but children under the age of 18 or non-art-enthusiasts may be bored easily.
